How To Identify House Mice Problems

    House Mice Description
The house mouse is a small, slender rodent that has a slightly pointed nose; small, black, somewhat protruding eyes; large, sparsely haired ears; and a nearly hairless tail with obvious scale rings. House mice are considered among the most troublesome and economically damaging rodents in the United States, and cause many problems.

    House Mice Habitats
House mice live in and around homes, farms, commercial establishments, and in open fields and agricultural lands. At times they may be found living far from human settlements, particularly where climates are moderate. The onset of cold weather each fall in temperate regions may cause mice to move into structures in search of shelter and food. Sounds such as gnawing, climbing in walls, running across the upper surface of ceilings, and squeaks are common indicators of mice infestations.

    House Mice Entry
House mice may burrow into the ground in fields or around structures when other shelter is not readily available. Nesting may occur in the ground or in any sheltered location. If you are experiencing a house mice problem in your home or place of business, chances are these nuisance critters have already established multiple entry points. Our house mice removal professionals will assess the problem and take the necessary steps to not only remove the house mice from your home or building but also repair damaged areas and reduce the possibility of future house mice infestation.

What To Do Before The House Mice Removal Specialist Arrives

    House Mice Control and Safety
House mice are not dangerous animals, however, if you are able to identify with certainty that you have house mice invading your home we recommend that you contact your local Critter Control office and take a few steps to prepare for the technician’s arrival. Take a walk around the exterior and try to identify the point(s) of entry. This will be helpful for the house mice removal technician. Among the diseases mice or their parasites may transmit to humans are salmonellosis (food poisoning), rickettsialpox, and lymphocytic choriomeningitis. Mice may also carry leptospirosis, ratbite fever, tapeworms, and organisms that can cause ringworm (a ungal skin disease) in humans.

    House Mice Damage
When house mice live in or around structures, they almost always cause some degree of economic house mice damage. In homes and commercial buildings, they may feed on various stored food items or pet foods. In addition, they usually contaminate foodstuffs with their urine, droppings, and hair. House mice cause structural damage to buildings by their gnawing and nest-building activities. House mice often make homes in large electrical appliances, and here they may chew up wiring as well as insulation, resulting in short circuits which create fire hazards or other malfunctions that are expensive to repair. Mice may also damage stored items in attics, basements, garages or museums. Your Critter Control technician will assess the damage caused by the nuisance house mice and provide solutions not only for repairing the damaged area but will also present a prevention strategy, which may include securing the house mice’ entry points to your home or business. The sooner these issues are handled and addressed by our house mice removal expert, the lower the overall cost. Don’t wait to call Critter Control if you see signs of house mice near your home!
